The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has joined NLC nationwide strike, hence, suspending the ongoing first semester undergraduate examinations for the 2022/2023 academic session and all other academic activities.
This was disclosed in a special bulletin issued on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023, signed by the Acting Registrar of the University, Amina Umar Abdullahi.
Furthermore, while explaining their resolution to comply with the directives of the National Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, the university management cited the joint decision of the University Unions to participate in the nationwide strike as the reason for its decision.
The bulletin read, “Following the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the subsequent decision by the University Unions to join the strike, the Management of Bayero University, Kano, has decided to suspend the ongoing 2022/2023 First Semester Undergraduate examinations and all other academic activities until further notice”.
Meanwhile, the university also urged students to remain calm and await for further directives from the school’s management.
Quest Times gathered that the ongoing examinations were halfway through before the directive was issued, however, the bulletin assured that once the strike ends, the examinations will resume.
Recall, Quest Times had reported that the nationwide strike was triggered by an assault on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in Owerri, Imo State on November 1st, during a protest against the Imo State Government over alleged maltreatment of workers.
