The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called of their planned nationwide strike schedule for Wednesday.
The union agreed to call off the strike after a closed-door meeting with government officials in Aso Rock late on Monday.
The resolution was announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is also President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila in Abuja on Monday night.
NLC National President, Mr. Joe Ajaero also confirmed this new development after a meeting between the Federal Government and the organized labour at the Presidential Villa, Abuja which lasted six hours.
‘The NLC is to suspend notice of strike forthwith to enable further consultations. The TUC and the NLC are to continue ongoing engagements with the Federal Government and secure closure on the resolutions.”
The labour union and the Federal Government are to meet on June 19, 2023, to agree on an implementation framework’ the Labour leaders and the FG representatives submitted in a communiqué issued after the meeting.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had declared a nationwide strike to protest against the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government.
