The Presidency on Tuesday said President Bola Tinubu does not have the time right now to monitor small things such as how the N2bn palliative recently disbursed to each state by the Federal Government is utilised.
Aliyu Audu, Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs stated this while featuring on Channels Television’s program ‘Sunrise Daily’ which was monitored by QUEST TIMES.
He said, ” If we do not take our time to look at much bigger issues if we want to spend our critical time on looking at small, small things which is what we have done…”
Aliyu was then interrupted by the anchor who asked him if the N5bn approved for palliatives is a small thing and if he thinks the president should just give out monies without monitoring it.
He also asked him if thinks transparency in government is a small issue.
Aliyu replied that President Bola Tinubu cannot go about monitoring how palliatives are spent when there are other pressing issues before him.
He said the ministerial retreat for members of the Federal Executive Council scheduled to be held from Wednesday, November 1 to Friday, November 3, 2023, takes priority over other issues.
“I am telling you that the president with all the challenges before him shouldn’t focus his attention on going to monitor how palliatives are used. The monitoring will come but it doesn’t have to be right now”.
“There are more important things at this particular time. The more important thing is setting an agenda for the government, and getting everybody to understand. The moment he has given out everybody’s KPI, then everybody goes back to the field and starts working”.
” He has time to start monitoring and evaluation. Right now, he needs to set a plan in motion which is what this retreat is all about”.
