A British nurse has been found guilty of committing heinous acts that have shocked humanity.
Lucy Letby, 33, who had once referred to herself as a “horrible evil person,” was convicted on Friday for the murders of seven newborn infants and the attempted killing of six others in the neonatal unit of a hospital in northwest England where she had been employed.
The verdict came as the culmination of a grueling 10-month trial held at Manchester Crown Court. Letby was held responsible for taking the lives of five baby boys and two baby girls at the Countess of Chester hospital. The timeframe of her crimes spanned 2015 and 2016, with a pattern emerging of her actions often occurring during her night shifts.
The trial’s outcome, as reported by local media, places Letby as the most prolific serial child killer in modern British history. While the jury spent 110 hours in deliberation, Letby was found guilty of the murders and attacks on several infants, with the evidence indicating a disturbing sequence of events.

Prosecutors presented evidence that Letby had utilized different methods to carry out her heinous acts. Some infants were fatally poisoned with insulin injections, while others were subjected to injections of air or were force-fed milk in a series of attacks that sometimes preceded their deaths.
Disturbingly, a handwritten note was discovered during a search of Letby’s home by police officers after her arrest. The note contained admissions of guilt, revealing her deliberate actions and self-identification as an “evil” person. “I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them,” she had written.
The victims of her crimes, the families of the newborns she targeted, expressed their emotions in a heartrending statement. They shared their heartbreak, devastation, anger, and a sense of numbness, acknowledging that understanding the reasons behind Letby’s actions might remain a mystery forever.
Among her victims were twins, demonstrating the extent of her cruelty. While in some cases she managed to take the lives of both siblings, in others, she succeeded in killing one but failed in her attempts on the other.
The youngest life taken was that of an innocent newborn, just one day old, underscoring the chilling nature of her crimes. The conclusion of this trial has brought to light the shocking and deeply unsettling reality of the crimes committed by Lucy Letby, a person entrusted with the care of the most vulnerable members of society.
