In a decisive move to uphold justice and deter criminal activities, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State has successfully obtained a six-month jail conviction for Kolajo Damilare.
This conviction stems from Damilare’s involvement in the theft of household items belonging to Razaq Salaudeen in the Abeokuta area.
The State Commandant, David Ojelabi, confirmed this development during a conversation with newsmen, highlighting the unwavering commitment of the NSCDC to safeguarding lives and property within the state.
Quest Times further learned that on November 15, 2023, at around 11 a.m., NSCDC officers from Opeji Division apprehended Damilare during a routine patrol of the Bode Olude area.
Upon interrogation, Damilare confessed to stealing a refrigerator, stabilizer, and security light from Salaudeen’s residence.
“It was established that Kolajo Damilare made his way into the compound of Mr Razaq Salaudeen to carry out the dastardly act. He vandalised the refrigerator and removed the evaporator, carried the stabiliser and also removed the security light and he was about leaving the compound when he was caught in the act,” Ojelabi said.
Prompt action by NSCDC officers prevented Damilare from facing mob violence, as he was taken into custody for further investigation and prosecution.
“He was in the process of being mobbed when the attention of the NSCDC officers on surveillance patrol was called and he was handed over to the NSCDC for investigation and prosecution. He was then transferred to the state headquarters.”
Following a thorough investigation and Damilare’s admission of guilt, State Commandant Ojelabi instructed that he be charged to court without delay.
Damilare was brought before an Isabo Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
Consequently, he was sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of N150,000. This legal action was supported by a fiat from the Attorney General of Ogun State authorizing the NSCDC to prosecute the case.
Commandant Ojelabi further revealed that Damilare was charged with the theft before the Abeokuta Magistrate Court 1 on November 17, 2023, as Magistrate E. O. Idowu found him guilty and sentenced him to six months imprisonment or a fine of N150,000.
