In Ayetoro Makun, Ogun State, residents have expressed distress over the absence of a public health centre, emphasizing the difficulties faced in obtaining essential medical care.
Concerns have risen as pregnant women are compelled to rely on untrained nurses during childbirth due to the limited healthcare options.
Rev. Morenikeji Afosi, a resident who spoke with newsmen, highlighted the challenges, stating, “We travel long distances to receive health attention, often reaching Babcock Hospital in Ilishan. Many neighbors share similar experiences in this struggle for medical care.”
While acknowledging a proposed site for a Public Health Centre (PHC), Afosi also emphasized the need for prompt execution.
She made an appeal to the state government for assistance in establishing a standard PHC to alleviate the community’s healthcare hardships.
Mr. Igbinigie ThankGod, another resident, echoed the sentiments, expressing difficulty in accessing medical treatment in neighbouring Mowe, especially during late hours.
He stressed the urgency of addressing critical health conditions, lamenting, “Without a PHC in the community, how can victims survive?”
Quest Times further reports that in response to the community’s plea, LGA Chairman Odulate Afolabi, has assured ongoing projects for PHCs.
“We are committed to building a PHC in Ayetoro Makun. Currently focusing on a maternity center, nearing completion, we aim to address healthcare needs systematically,” he stated.
Conclusively, Afolabi reassured residents that the local government is dedicated to delivering the benefits of democracy, emphasizing the step-by-step approach to tackling healthcare challenges in the community.
