President Bola Tinubu’s intervention has successfully quelled the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, according to Bayo Onanuga, a key Presidential aide.
The resolution unfolded during a crucial three-hour meeting at the State House in Abuja, where President Tinubu engaged with prominent figures including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, former governor Peter Odili, and other stakeholders.
Following the extensive deliberations, eight decisive resolutions were reached to defuse the political tension in the South-South state. Notable figures such as Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Oma Ordu, Wike, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Martin Amaewhule (factional Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly), Aaron Chukwuemeka (Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State), and Tony Okocha (APC Caretaker Chairman) all affixed their signatures to the resolution.
Reacting to this pivotal development, Onanuga expressed his relief via a post on his verified X handle, emphasizing that peace has been restored to Rivers State due to President Tinubu’s intervention. Onanuga commended the President, highlighting that Tinubu demonstrated himself as the father of the nation, transcending party affiliations.
He wrote: “Peace returns to Rivers state, thanks to the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who has shown he is the father of the nation, irrespective of party affiliation. The truce followed a meeting by Rivers stakeholders at State House in Abuja today.”
