In a statement released today by Richard Olatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, it was announced that the Governor will embark on a medical leave starting Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
This temporary absence is part of a follow-up to his medical treatment, during which Governor Akeredolu will prioritize his health to ensure a full recovery before resuming his official duties.
According to the statement, a formal letter outlining the details of the medical leave and officially transferring power in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution will be transmitted to the House of Assembly. During Governor Akeredolu’s absence, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will step in to assume the responsibilities of the Governor in an acting capacity.
Governor Akeredolu, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support and affection of the people of Ondo State, assured them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.
This move is not unprecedented, as Governor Akeredolu has consistently delegated power to his deputy during his annual vacations. Similar arrangements were observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, when he previously embarked on vacations.
The Governor’s spokesperson emphasized that this decision reflects Governor Akeredolu’s responsible approach to governance, ensuring that the affairs of the state continue smoothly even in his temporary absence.
