Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is hosting the nation’s Senators and members of the House of Representatives to Iftar dinner tonight and tomorrow, as he continues to consult with political heavyweights ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Iftar is the meal eaten by Muslims after sunset, during Ramadan.
Osinbajo had hosted powerful state governors to a similar dinner on the eve of his presidential declaration on Sunday, April 10.
“In continuation of Iftar/Dinners he started Sunday evening, VP Osinbajo is hosting Senators tonight and Representatives tomorrow. In a cordial and convivial atmosphere like on Sunday.
“The VP thanked the Senators for honouring his invitation and also used the opportunity to discuss his 2023 plans,” tweeted Laolu Akande, who is the vice president’s spokesperson.
Osinbajo, 65, is one of a handful of experienced politicians and administrators jostling for the presidential ticket of the APC–Nigeria’s governing political party.
A Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the soft-spoken, avuncular and eloquent vice president has promised to change the course of Nigeria’s history if elected President in the spring of 2023.
Bola Tinubu, another presidential aspirant on the APC platform, has also been meeting with governors and lawmakers as he seeks their support ahead of the elections.
