The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned against continuous provocation and vandalisation of its campaign materials by agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.
This warning becomes necessary following the destruction of billboards, flags and campaign offices of the party in Gboko Local Government Area by suspected agents of the APC, allegedly led by one Sarsar Ajav.
Benue PDP in a statement by its publicity secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, said “it is becoming the norm rather than aberration that its publicity materials are wantonly destroyed by suspected agents of the APC as was the case only a few days back in the Makurdi/Guma axis where billboards promoting candidates of our great party at Agan Toll Gate, Daudu and Yelwata were vandalised and defaced.
“As a political party, we are committed to the rule of law as consistently advocated by our leader, Governor Samuel Ortom, that it remains the only recourse to seeking redress for those wrongs against us, and have duly lodged our complaints with law enforcement agencies.
“The unconscionable tale being flown in the air by the cow-lovers and peoples-hating party in Benue that it’s PDP elements going about destroying billboards of the presidential candidate of our great party is bizarre since evidence abound of the billboards destroyed being of our governorship candidates and other candidates too.
“We are aware APC is increasingly jittery at the massively swelling show of support for PDP by the Benue electorate, as our great party rolls across the state on its campaign tour and is received by mammoth crowds at every point visited, as such the opposition party has decided to provoke a situation of anarchy, having they nothing to lose, yet we demand an end to this ugly trend forthwith.
“APC must beware that continued lawlessness at some point inevitably begets lawlessness, no matter the docility of the party at the receiving end of it – the victim,” he said.
