Incumbent Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has emerged winner of the supplementary Governorship election, after collation resumed today, Tuesday, April 18.
The Adamawa vote has been mired in controversy and collation was deferred last Sunday for a second time, after the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) declared Aisha Binani of the APC winner, even though he didn’t have the powers to do so.
Today, the returning officer for the election pronounced that Fintiri scored a total of 430, 861 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Aisha Binani who got 396,788.
Electoral umpire INEC had asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest and prosecute the REC who went rogue last weekend.
Senator Binani would have been Nigeria’s first elected female governor had she won the election.
