Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has referred to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the just ended February 25 presidential election, as his hero.
Wike made the remarks during a town hall meeting with Igbo traders in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Even though Obi wasn’t proclaimed the victor, he said that by participating in the election, a southerner was chosen to be the next president.
According to Wike, Obi won where the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would have won, allowing the PDP to retain control in the North.
“In this election that we just did,” he said, “Obi is my hero, as far as I’m concerned. If he didn’t contest, power would have remained in the North,” he said.
