Former Anambra Governor and presidential aspirant ahead of the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, is unhappy about the growing online militancy of his army of young supporters.
Obi, who dumped the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)–on whose platform he was aspiring to become Nigeria’s President–on May 20, 2022, cited “recent developments within our party” as reason for his exit.
He has since pitched tent with the Labour Party and continues to enjoy a feral, manic support across Nigeria’s social media sphere.
After the PDP concluded its presidential convention which elected Atiku Abubakar as 2023 flag-bearer, Obi said it was about time his supporters started behaving themselves.
“It has been brought to my attention, and I have also observed that some of my numerous supporters are making personal attacks on other aspirants/candidates,” Obi, 60, tweeted.
He added that; “Whilst thanking you for your support, which I sincerely value and appreciate, I humbly appeal that we all imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and avoid name-calling or personal attacks on other aspirants and candidates.
“The common goal is to make Nigeria better. Elections are a democratic contest and need not be adversarial.”
Obi has promised to change Nigeria from a consumption economy to a production hub, if elected president next February.
Obi was Atiku’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election.
