The Kano State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for individuals who were involved in chanting provocative slogans against the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, during a public event. The state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Gumel, announced this during a press briefing in Kano.
The incident occurred at the inauguration of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, situated near the Emir’s palace, on Sunday. The protesters, who had not been invited to the event, disrupted the proceedings by chanting slogans such as “new governor, new Emir.” They expressed their demand that Governor Abba Yusuf replace the Emir with a new one, citing the change in government leadership as the reason for their demand.
The police commissioner revealed that technology was employed to identify six individuals who participated in the disturbance. The police are further analyzing video footage to identify additional participants and their sponsors.
Gumel emphasized the significance of respecting the traditional institution and described anyone interfering with it as a saboteur and an enemy of the state. He emphasized that efforts are being made to apprehend all those involved and to uncover the identities of those who may have sponsored the disruptive activity.
He said, “Those people were not invited to the event. They were intruders who came on their own, and they must have been sponsored by somebody or a group of persons.
“Six persons have been identified. We used technology to track them down. We are still analysing the video footage, and we are making efforts to arrest all those involved. We are also making efforts to get their sponsors.
“Traditional institution is a respectable institution; anybody who messes around with the traditional institution is a saboteur and an enemy of the state.”
In a separate development, Gumel mentioned that over the past three months, more than 100 repentant criminals have voluntarily surrendered to the police in the state, turning in their weapons.
