President Bola Tinubu has appointed Zach Adedeji, his Special Adviser on Revenue, as the new Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
In a statement released on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President, it was announced that the current FIRS Chairman, Muhammad Nami, has been directed to proceed on three months of pre-retirement leave. This directive aligns with the provisions of Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243.
The statement read, “The President has directed the erstwhile FIRS Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami, to proceed on 3 months of pre-retirement leave, as provisioned by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, with immediate effect, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.”

“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is hereby appointed in an acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a term of four years in the first instance.”
The new appointment takes immediate effect. Adedeji, a native of the Iwo-Afe area in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government of Oyo State, recently obtained his doctorate degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
He is a first-class graduate in accounting from the same university and has served in various capacities, including as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).
