The Principal of Ado Community High School Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Mr. Adesoji Bamidele has accused an examination invigilator working with the West Africa Examination Council of brutalization a female student
The Invigilator whose identity is yet to be revealed by the school management alleged he used a heavy stick to beat up inflicting serious injuries on the student identified Ayelemi Adesewa.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent, the Principal said that the external invigilator was in the school on Monday to inspect WAEC examination when the incident occurred.
He said “Immediately after the incident happened we took the student to WAEC Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti to report the case about their hired invigilator but the person in charge said we should report the case at the police station.
” From the police station, we were directed to the police clinic where we took the student for treatment and we waited until she was discharged and then we took her home to her parents.
” We visited her at home the following day and we were happy that she is already in good shape.
When asked if the invigilator had been arrested by the police, the principal claimed that the Ministry of Education stepped by setting up a panel to which the invigilator was invited for questioning.
He said, “We were also invited for questioning, and the man was there. The Ministry and Civil Service Commission are ready to take action on the individual’s diabolical act.”
He claims that three permanent Secretaries—Women Affairs, Education, and Civil Service Commission—are handling the situation to determine the necessary sanction for the invigilator.
Moyosola Adeyegbe, who oversees the WAEC Headquarters’ Public Affairs Division, denied being aware of the incident when Quest Times contacted her.
But she added, “We have supervisors and they strictly follow the laws set forth; we don’t deploy invigilators to conduct exams in schools.”
“Our supervisors cannot physically punish a student; instead, they can simply record the specifics of any student who is caught breaking the regulations during an exam.”
Adeyegbe however promised to contact their staff in Ado- Ekiti to unveil the situation and get back to our Reporter at the time of filing this report.
Footage obtained by the Quest Times showed the student with blood all over her body as a result of the injuries inflicted on her by the invigilator.
The situation attracted teachers, students and even management of the school who all condemned the action of the invigilator.
Several attempt to get the identity of the invigilator was unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
