Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State has chosen to remain tight-lipped regarding the purpose and outcomes of his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.
The closed-door discussion, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, left journalists seeking answers about the nature of the meeting.
Emerging from the session around 6:30 p.m., Governor Fubara resisted calls to disclose the agenda and results of the meeting, emphasizing that it was a private affair. Vanguard had earlier reported President Tinubu’s involvement in the meeting with Governor Fubara.
While the specific details of the visit were not publicized, speculations suggest a connection to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The conflict revolves around the control of the state’s political structure, pitting Governor Fubara against his estranged political mentor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Governor Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa at approximately 5:35 p.m. for the meeting with Tinubu, heading straight to the President’s office upon arrival. Notably, the governor attended the meeting unaccompanied, in contrast to a previous visit where he brought a delegation of loyalists during a peace meeting with the President concerning the clash with Wike.
It’s worth recalling that President Tinubu has previously intervened in the political discord between Governor Fubara and the FCT Minister, aiming to foster resolution and stability.
