Real Madrid is gearing up to challenge the decision to send off Jude Bellingham after their 2-2 draw against Valencia, claiming unfair treatment by the match officials.
The incident, which occurred during Saturday’s intense match at Mestalla, has stirred controversy in the footballing world.
The La Liga leaders found themselves trailing 2-0 in the first half, with Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk finding the net for Valencia.
However, a remarkable comeback ensued, spearheaded by Vinicius, who netted twice, leveling the score for Los Blancos.
In the dying moments of the game, Bellingham thought he had secured victory for his team with a headed goal.
Unfortunately, the referee blew the final whistle just before the ball crossed the line, prompting an eruption of protests from Bellingham and his teammates, resulting in the Englishman’s expulsion from the pitch.
Bellingham’s absence from the upcoming clash against Celta Vigo looms over Real Madrid, with the potential of further suspension pending the appeal’s outcome.
However, the club remains optimistic, drawing parallels to a similar incident involving Mason Greenwood earlier in the season.
In January, Greenwood, on loan from Manchester United to Getafe, was unjustly dismissed for dissent during a match against Rayo Vallecano.
Yet, upon appeal, it was revealed that his expletive-laden frustration was not directed at the referee, leading to the rescindment of the red card.
Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s coach, defended Bellingham, emphasizing the player’s respectful conduct towards the officials. “He didn’t insult the referee,” Ancelotti clarified. “He was respectful. He spoke in English and just said: ‘It was a f***ing goal.'”
