President Bola Tinubu, supported by key stakeholders on Monday, successfully mediated to bring an end to the political turmoil in Rivers State.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, reached an agreement following extensive discussions led by President Tinubu.
Addressing the nation on TV, Presidential Spokesman Ajuri Ngelale emphasized that the President’s involvement was rooted in a commitment to national unity and stability rather than political motivations.
He further explained that President Tinubu was fully prepared to take decisive action if a resolution had not been achieved. Ngelale highlighted the President’s readiness to uphold peace, making it clear that the outcome was a relief for the people of Rivers State and Nigerians in general.
In his words;
“The motive of the President in this case is clearly not a political one. He’s the father of the nation.
“He’s the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. It’s his primary responsibility to ensure that there’s peace, stability and security in all parts of the country.
“If he sees that peace is breaking down in any part of the country, this is a President that will take action. But nobody should be mistaken, His Excellency, Mr President, was fully ready and equipped to take a very hard action if this resolution was not reached.
“So it is of great relief to the Rivers people and Nigerians at large that a resolution has been reached.”
