The ongoing crisis within the Rivers State government escalated further on Monday when reports emerged that the State Assembly had signed an impeachment notice directed at Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
During a session chaired by Speaker Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule and attended by a significant number of members, the House Leader, Hon Edison Ehie, and those allied with the governor were temporarily suspended.
It has been suggested that the incident that transpired in the Assembly on Sunday night may have been an attempt to prevent lawmakers from gaining entry on Monday.
In an early morning development, a group of lawmakers managed to access the House and promptly convened a plenary session, during which they collectively endorsed the impeachment notice against the governor.
Meanwhile, armed policemen have cordoned off the entire Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
