The incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has raised concerns about the ongoing agitation in Rivers State. This comes in the wake of a peace resolution recently signed with Governor Sim Fubara.
Wike addressed the matter on Sunday during a thanksgiving ceremony for George Kelly Alabo.
Expressing his unease with the nature of the agitation, Wike sought to dispel the notion that it is exclusively an Ijaw-centric issue. He emphasized the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the political intricacies within Rivers State.
During his address to the congregation, Wike highlighted that both he and Governor Fubara were provided with instructions by the President.
However, he raised questions about Governor Fubara’s adherence to these instructions, stating;
“When we wanted to go for it we were not shouting asawana, now they’re carrying flags and shouting asawana up and down. Are you people aware that Mr President actually called us privately and told us what to do, he didn’t do it and now Mr President then said okay, the larger house should come and they’re saying he does not have the constitutional right to do that.”
