The Supreme Court is set to announce decisions on appeals challenging election outcomes in Gombe, Kebbi, Ogun, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Delta states today.
Quest Times recalls that the apex court decided the fate of 10 state governors, confirming their positions last week.
Notably, Nasarawa State’s case is drawing attention due to concerns about potential unrest after the judgment. Both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have committed to a peace agreement ahead of the ruling.
The tribunal had initially removed Governor Abdullahi Sule, but was later overturned by the appeal court, citing procedural errors.
Another focal point is the Delta State governorship appeal, where Ken Pella of the Labour Party and Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC contest Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory.
Moreover, Ladi Adebutu of the PDP is challenging Governor Dapo Abiodun’s win in Ogun.
The roads leading to the Supreme Court have been secured, with rigorous checks for accredited litigants, journalists, and party supporters.
At present, security forces are managing a sizable crowd gathered to witness the proceedings. So far, no governor has been removed from office in the decided cases.
