Google on Saturday, April 30, 2022, revealed the top search trends on its search engine for the month as NIN-SIM linkage, newly-wed Rita Dominic and deceased gospel Singer Osinach Nwachukwu among others.
Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Head Communications, Google West Africa revealed the trends in a statement where he explained the reasons for the topics’ emergence as the most searched.
According to Kola-Ogunlade, the Federal government’s directive to bar outgoing calls from unlinked SIMs shot the NIN-SIM linkage saga to the top of the trend table.

Also, the death of prominent Nigerians like gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, Nollywood Yoruba actor, Kunle Adetokunbo and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III also caused the subjects to rank high.

He said their deaths aroused interest due to the circumstances surrounding her death, and revelations which emerged after. Popular Yoruba actor Kunle Adetokunbo also known as Dejo Tunfulu passed on after a brief illness while on admission in a hospital, causing users to search for his name on Google.

Also searched where the 2022 Grammy Awards where six Nigerians were nominated, the high-profile wedding between veteran actress, Rita Dominic media executive Fidelis Anosike, fast-rising Ghanaian rapper, Black Sherif whose song Kwaku the Traveller topped the Nigerian music charts.
‘’Other searches that piqued Nigerians’ interest include Chrisland School, How to check JAMB centres, the scientific name for ear ringing, third term school resumption, who is Black Sheriff.
Search trends information is gleaned from data collated by Google based on what Nigerians have been searching for and asking Google, Google processes more than 40,000 search queries every second.
