On Tuesday, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, appeared in the FCT High Court in Abuja as a witness in the trial of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele faces charges including corrupt practices, conspiracy, breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretenses totaling $6,230,000.
Mustapha, appearing as Prosecution Witness 2, testified that he had no knowledge of the $6.2 million transaction during his tenure, which spanned five years and seven months. He clarified that the document in question did not originate from the President’s office.
The Quest Times had earlier reported how Onyeka Ogbu, a Deputy Director at the Central Bank told a federal capital territory high court in Maitama that former President Muhammadu Buhari and Boss Mustapha, the former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), approved the disbursement of $6,230,000 to international election observers.
During the court session, Mustapha emphasized that during his time in government, he was unfamiliar with the term “Special Appropriation Provision,” only recognizing “appropriation” and “Supplementary.”
He also noted that in his correspondence with former President Muhammadu Buhari, the phrase “Please accept with my highest regard” was not used, suggesting that the signature on the document was not authentic.
Mustapha further stated that the Nigerian Government had no role in paying foreign election observers and that Federal Executive Council decisions were not communicated via letters.
