The immediate past Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that they are looking forward to achieving a positive impact in the forthcoming Sierra Leone elections scheduled for Saturday.
Prof. Osinbajo who is the Chairman of the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) disclosed this Sierra Leone.
The former Vice- President and his team arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone as part of the pre-election preparation for the Elections.
The West African country will be holding her polls for the parliamentary and presidential elections, where the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) presidential candidate in Sierra Leone, Samura Kamara, will slug it out with President Julius Maada Bio of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) running for a second term.
The Chairman of the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) is however optimistic about the success of the coming national elections.
He said, “The team of 12 eminent Commonwealth Observers, diving into Day 2 with intense internal briefings along our exceptional team of observers and the @commonwealthsec Secretariat as we gear up for our mission here in Sierra Leone. Looking forward to making a positive impact together.”
Prof Osinbajo who led a team of 12 distinguished election observers (including the Chairman) to observe the upcoming multi-tier elections in Sierra Leone on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The COG is made up of foreign professionals with expertise in law, human rights, media, gender, diplomacy, and election administration from more than ten Commonwealth nations.
From June 17 to June 30, the team will be in Sierra Leone to observe the election and offer an unbiased evaluation of how honestly the vote was conducted.
