Nigerian Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, on Christmas Day, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Soyinka expressed his concerns about Tinubu’s presidential aspirations, highlighting his unsuccessful attempt to dissuade the President from entering politics.
The literary icon, visibly frustrated by Tinubu’s disregard for his advice, said he privately refers to him as “Olorikunkun,” which is a Yoruba word for “stubborn person.”
He said, “Actually, it’s an embarrassing visit because when I visited him the last time, it was to try and pursued him not to run for office, I think they have written about that. I told Atiku and himself to leave the ground for young people, that’s the last time we met about five years ago.”
Soyinka added; “I call Tinubu secretly Olorikunkun because the stubborn man ignored my advice completely. So I came to see how he was doing after neglecting my advice.”
