Apparently worried by the continued closure of the universities in the country, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Sa’ad Abubakar, has pleaded with the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) “in the name of Allah” to urgently resolve the lingering crisis between themselves.
According to the Sultan, the strike action by the lecturers has crippled the public university system in the country.

In a statement signed by Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, JNI’s Secretary–General said “the time has come for all the critical stakeholders, especially the Federal Government, to nip this national malady in the bud once and for all.

“Arising from the various calls for the resolution of the ASUU- FGN face-off, we use this medium to appeal to the Federal Government and ASUU to, in the name of Allah (SWT) and as a matter of urgency, resolve the lingering crisis between themselves which has bedeviled the public university in the country.
“Parents, students and the entire nation have been adversely affected by this nightmarish impasse.
“The time has come for all the critical stakeholders, especially the Federal Government, to nip this national malady in the bud once and for all.
“Continued closure of our universities spells doom for our nation and aggravates the current security dilemma in the country,” the statement read.
The statement also appeals to Nigerians to continue to intensify prayers for Nigeria and its leaders, especially as the 2023 general elections are fast approaching.
