Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has shared details about the tragic events during a midnight raid by the Department of State Services (DSS) in July 2021.
Igboho confirmed that several of his cherished cats fell victim to indiscriminate firing by DSS officers, dismissing rumors of his alleged transformation into a cat to evade capture.
In an exclusive interview with The Punch monitored by Quest Times, Igboho clarified that the cats were unintended casualties caught in the crossfire, refuting earlier claims that the DSS, along with soldiers, had engaged herbalists and seized cats, suspecting Igboho’s mystical escape.
“It’s true that some cats were killed during the attack,” Igboho explained. “The DSS just kept firing bullets everywhere. I had many cats as pets, and any movement attracted their gunfire.”
Despite the adversity, Igboho expressed resilience, emphasizing that the DSS’s mission was either to eliminate or apprehend him. He asserted, “Their mission was clear: either kill me or arrest me and take me to some unknown location.
But God is greater than anyone, including the former president. My God and providence put them to shame with that illegal raid. They failed to achieve what they came for. I didn’t turn into a cat to escape.”
This revelation surfaces in the aftermath of the ECOWAS Court of Justice’s ruling in Abuja, instructing the Benin Republic government to compensate Igboho with 20 million CFA for the raid and his wrongful detention. Having regained his freedom in Benin, Igboho has joyfully reunited with his family in Germany.
