Tragedy struck as terrorists targeted power transmission towers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu route, resulting in the loss of an officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Quest Times reports that the incident which occurred on December 28, 2023, marked the second attack within a week, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the destruction of three towers in a statement released in Abuja on Friday.
Expressing deep sorrow, Mbah stated, “It is truly another very sad day for us at TCN, with this incident, especially with the loss of life of the NSCDC official.”
The fallen officer, identified as Nurudeen, met his demise while inspecting the vandalized electricity tower.
Also, counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, specializing in the Lake Chad region, shared details on his verified handle, noting that Nurudeen tragically lost his life after stepping on a minor line affected by the bomb explosion.
To this effect, TCN extended condolences to the family of the deceased NSCDC officer, emphasizing the gravity of the incident.
The bombing not only disrupted crucial power transmission, but also claimed the life of a dedicated security operative, underscoring the challenges faced in maintaining infrastructure security.
