President Bola Tinubu joyfully commemorated Chief Bisi Akande’s 85th birthday, praising their enduring friendship dating back to their governorship days in 1999-2003.
In a heartfelt statement on Monday, Tinubu lauded Chief Akande’s commitment to principles such as integrity, loyalty, truth, and justice.
The duo, both former governors under the Alliance for Democracy, shared a significant role in founding the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Baba was a principal actor in the founding of our great party, the All Progressives Congress. He has always been a progressive; always noble and disciplined in thoughts and actions, and given to rational and enlightened ideals,” the statement read in part.
Chief Akande who served as Osun State governor from 1999 to 2003 and was the first interim National Chairman of the APC, is celebrated by Tinubu for his unwavering dedication to Nigeria.
Quest Times notes that former President Muhammadu Buhari, acknowledging Akande as a robust democracy pillar, described him as such during his 82nd birthday in 2021.
In December 2023, Chief Akande cautioned against branding dissenting APC members as opposition agents, emphasizing unity within the party.
