Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, Jimi Agbaje has said President Bola Tinubu is yet to address the compassionate aspect of fuel subsidy removal which will lessen the hardship of the removal on the masses.
Speaking in an interview with QUEST TIMES, Agbaje, a former national chairmanship aspirant of the party said Tinubu’s failure to address the compassionate part of the removal is the reason why the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other Nigerians are agitating.
After it carried out its two-day warning strike, the NLC has given the federal government until Friday to meet its demands or risk another round of industrial unrest which will be indefinite.
Speaking with our correspondent on Tinubu’s 100 days in office, Agbaje said “For me, it is too early to assess. Obviously, there are lots of issues to be addressed. One major thing he has done in the last 100 days is the issue of subsidy removal.”
“As everybody has seen, the issue of subsidy removal has been done but it has had its ripple effect. So, we have done one side of it but the other side, which is the compassionate part of the policy still needs to be done. We can see the ripple effect on inflation in terms of foreign exchange and all”.
“I believe it is still work in progress because the compassionate aspect of the subsidy removal is still yet to be addressed. It has to be balanced. That’s why you still find a lot of issues with the NLC and every other person who are agitation as a result of the removal”.
