At about 6:00 pm on Christmas Day, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded as 26-year-old Femi Adegboyega and his 23-year-old brother, Ibukun Adegboyega, tragically lost their lives while swimming at Ibeshe Beach in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State.
As learned by Quest Times, the siblings, residents of FESTAC Town, were enjoying the day with friends before the unfortunate incident occurred.
Eyewitness Seun, who had been with them moments before, expressed disbelief, saying, “We were swimming together on the beach. To be honest, I do not understand how it happened because we were together and all of a sudden they both drowned.”
Despite efforts from friends and local divers, attempts to rescue the siblings proved unsuccessful.
Femi, another eyewitness, shared, “All efforts by his friends and local divers to rescue them from Ibeshe Beach did not work. The divers searched the beach but their bodies have not been found.
“We swam for a long time but to no avail. I strongly believe their bodies will be found soon. We informed the police about it quickly before the situation escalated. I pray their bodies will be found. I pray everything works well.”
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that divers had been engaged to locate the bodies.
He assured that investigations were underway and the family had been notified, saying, “Divers have been employed to locate the bodies, and the family of the deceased are already informed and the investigation is ongoing.”
