A rider of a commercial tricycle (popularly known as Keke NAPEP) has been lynched to death in Yenizue-Epie community of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
It was learnt that the people resorted to jungle justice on the rider on Wednesday evening after he had stabbed a man identified as Douglas Joseph, 30, to death.
An eyewitness told DAILY POST that they were outside, by Saptex junction, in Yenizue-Epie, when they noticed the argument going on between the Keke rider and Joseph.
“He said he was coming from Opolo community to Kpansia which was supposed to be N100, but the Keke rider insisted on collecting N150.
“As we were separating them, we saw the Keke rider bring out a dagger. We thought it was just to scare the youth. But he stabbed him on his lap and the young man fell to the ground. People prevented the Keke rider from running away. Unfortunately, his wounded victim died. Following his death, the Keke rider was lynched by a mob that hit him with different objects,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command, while reacting to the incident, said it has deployed its Anti Riot Squad to restore normalcy at Kpansia and its environs over the unfortunate murder of a community youth by a tricycle rider.
