Former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, has been transferred to a hospital in the Netherlands after experiencing a brain bleed.
According to his wife, Annemarie van Kesteren, he is currently in intensive care but remains in a stable condition.
Van der Sar had been hospitalized in Croatia for over a week while on vacation.
In a statement released by Ajax, his wife expressed gratitude to the University Hospital of Split for their excellent care.
“His situation remains the same: stable, in a non-life-threatening condition, and communicative,” she said.
“The Van der Sar family would like to express their deep gratitude to the University Hospital of Split for their great care during the last week.

“Edwin has to remain in the intensive care unit where he will be investigated further, and the family fervently hope he can focus on his recovery afterwards.”
The retired Netherlands international, who earned 130 caps for his country, stepped down as Ajax’s chief executive in May following the team’s third-place finish in the Dutch league and failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Van der Sar retired from playing in 2011 after leaving Manchester United and later joined the Ajax board in 2012. In 2016, he became the club’s chief executive.
Throughout his career, he made 266 appearances for Manchester United and played a crucial role in their success, including winning four Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.
