Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has dispelled rumors of his potential departure from the club, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to the ongoing project at Anfield.
With 18 months remaining on his Liverpool contract, Van Dijk initially hesitated to commit to the club’s long-term future following Jurgen Klopp’s unexpected announcement of his departure after nine seasons.
Klopp’s decision, revealed on Friday, also included the exits of assistants Pep Lijnders, Vitor Matos, and Peter Krawietz, as well as sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.
Concerns arose among fans after Van Dijk’s initial comments, fearing a turbulent period ahead without Klopp. However, the Dutch captain clarified his stance on the Men in Blazers YouTube channel, insisting that his words were misconstrued.
Van Dijk expressed, “It’s been taken out of context. To be 100 per cent clear, I am fully committed to the club. I love the club, I love the fans. Nothing has changed. My full focus is on making sure this year is a very special year.”
Acknowledging the shock of Klopp’s announcement, Van Dijk reassured fans that the team remains resolute in pursuing their goals. As the Liverpool captain, he affirmed, “I am fully committed to the club and I love it. I love each and every day at Liverpool. We will see how that goes, but we are going for it all.”
