In a plea for help, the ousted President of Gabon, Mr. Ali Bongo, has reached out to the international community for support.
Sitting in front of a bookshelf in what he claims to be his residence, Mr. Bongo appeared in a video where he urgently appealed for assistance.
He informed that his wife and son were in separate locations, emphasizing the need for action.
“My name is Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of Gabon. I am sending a message to all friends that we have all over the world, to tell them to make noise, to make noise”
The unfolding scenario follows closely after Mr. Bongo’s controversial victory in the recent presidential election, securing him a third consecutive term in office. However, the election results were marred by allegations of fraud, causing a delay in their announcement since the previous Saturday.

The opposition staunchly claimed that the electoral process was tainted. Concerns were raised over the lack of international observers, the suspension of foreign broadcasts, and the implementation of an internet blackout and a night-time curfew following the election.
These factors cast doubt on the transparency of the electoral process, despite Mr. Bongo’s team vehemently refuting any allegations of misconduct.
In a noteworthy development, the restoration of internet access seemed to coincide with the military’s announcement of their seizure of power. This was the first instance of internet connectivity returning since the voting took place on Saturday.
The political upheaval in Gabon signifies a potential end to the Bongo family’s near 55-year-long hold on power in the nation.
