On Friday, December 15, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun, a 75-year-old grandmother, in Oshodi, Lagos, during a recent operation, for engaging in illicit drug activities.
Quest Times gathered that during the arrest, quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup were recovered from her.
The anti-narcotic agency disclosed that the 75-year-old claimed her son, Segun, who is now at large, supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed.
In a related development, operatives of NDLEA, on the same day, raided the house of a suspected drug kingpin, Ibrahim Yahaya, in the Tudun Kofa area of Lafia, Nasarawa State.
This was disclosed in a statement shared by the Director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi via X (formerly Twitter), on Sunday.
NDLEA discovered a total of 10 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 100kg from the ceiling of the dealer; Ibrahim was arrested and now in NDLEA’s custody.
Also, the operatives at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos, intercepted over 1.5 million pills of tramadol 225mg and rohypnol.
It was learnt that the drugs were intercepted in a cargo heading to South Africa.
Consequently, two suspects; Bada Olanrewaju Akorede, and Amusan Olufela Sharafadeen have since been taken into custody in connection with the consignment, which consists: 1,050,000 pills of tramadol 225mg and 510,000 tablets of rohypnol.
Sharing the videos on X (formerly Twitter), NDLEA through Babafemi wrote, “Narco-trend: First video shows the moment #ndlea_nigeria officers discovered jumbo bags of drugs hidden in the ceiling of the home of a drug kingpin in Lafia, Nasarawa state while the 2nd reveals how over 1.5 million pills of tramo heading to Southy were uncovered at MMIA.”
