The political crisis in Rivers State deepened as the State House of Assembly Complex faced demolition on Wednesday.
Simultaneously, Governor Siminalayi Fubara presented the N800 billion budget estimates for 2024 to the Edison Ehie-led group at the Government House.
The Ehie group, recognized as the Speaker of the House by the court, witnessed the budget presentation in a hall at the Government House. The decision to hold the event there seemed prompted by ongoing “renovation” work at the state assembly complex, which began on Wednesday morning.
The state government executed the demolition of the assembly complex, deploying bulldozers that arrived at 6 am on Wednesday. This drastic action followed a fire incident that occurred approximately two months ago, further intensifying the intrigues surrounding the political landscape in Rivers State.
