Prominent leaders from all 17 wards in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, have united in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and State Assembly Speaker Edison Ehie, emphasizing the need for cohesion.
Notable figures, including former Council Chairman Solomon Abel-Eke and Chijioke Ihunwo, State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, have urged fellow leaders Nyesom Wike and lawmaker Martin Amaewhule to cease hostilities for the greater good.
In a bid to address recent political shifts, the group has unveiled plans to launch a grassroots campaign for fresh elections to ensure transparent representation in the state assembly.
Highlighting concerns over defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leaders argue that such moves have rendered previous victories null and void.
During a media briefing, Ihunwo expressed solidarity with Governor Fubara, condemning verbal attacks and alleged police brutality faced in October. Former Council Chairman Abel-Eke emphasized the community’s unwavering support for Fubara, transcending ethnic boundaries.
Backing their decision, Abel-Eke asserted that traditional rulers, youths, and women leaders across the LGA stand united in endorsing Governor Fubara’s leadership.
