Grammy Award winner, Wizkid, touched the hearts of many at his late mother’s burial event on Thursday. The emotional moment was captured in a video that has now circulated on social media.
The singer’s mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, passed away on August 18, 2023. In an e-flier shared on social media last Sunday, the family had announced the burial arrangements, with a wake and tribute scheduled for October 12, followed by the funeral on October 13.
During the wake and tribute event held in Lagos, family members gathered to bid their final farewell to the departed. When Wizkid was handed the microphone to speak, he was visibly emotional, expressing his deep love and the void left by his mother.

Wizkid, born on July 26, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, grew up in a polygamous household with a Muslim father and a Christian mother. His father had three wives. Wizkid’s mother was a familiar presence at many of his concerts and events.
Born on July 14, 1957, she is survived by her husband, M.O Balogun, and four children: Yetunde Balogun, Omolara Osunkoya, Olubusayo Balogun, and Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid), as well as several grandchildren.
