MultiChoice Nigeria has stated that the pricing for its DStv and GOtv packages will be increased beginning May 1, 2023, citing rising business operating costs as the cause for the increase.
The text message reads, “Please note that from May 1, your monthly subscription (premium) will be N24,500. To retain your old price of N21,000 for up to 12 months ensure you are active by April 30”.
The price for the premium package on DStv will increase to N24,500 from the current N21,000, while the Compact Plus bouquet will cost N16,600 instead of the current N14,250. The price of the Compact package will increase from N9,000 to N10,500, and Confam subscribers will pay N6,200 compared to the previous N5,300. On GOtv, the price for Supa package will increase to N6,400 from the current N5,500, while GOtv Max increases from N4,150 to N4,850.
The new subscription rates are expected to take effect from May 1, 2023.
Following the announcement, Nigerians took to social media with mixed opinions on the price hike.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times
@_AsiwajuLerry The only reason DSTV keep getting away with this ridiculous subscription rates with no significant value is because they have no competition in Africa.
@cchukudebelu I don’t really get much value from my DSTV subscription. So I might decide to junk the entire thing.
@lollypeezle Can we all just agree to boycott Multichoice and their products (DSTV and GOTV)? The increment in tariffs is getting too much. After every market day, they increase price while showing same movie over and over and over again till you know the next scene word for word. Can we?
@Nigeriangod_ You can’t blame DSTV for price increases cos Nigerian terrain of doing business is not favorable to business owners, there’s no light and this people runs on diesel which cost a fortune plus securities & logistics. They’ve to increase their subscription to be able to pay salaries
@Elkrosmediahub The funniest thing about this DSTV sub increment be sey, when we vex and rant finish for twitter, we go still pay am
@Letter_to_Jack I know we all want to blame DSTV for the most recent subscription rates increase. But think about it, which commodity in Nigeria has not experienced a price increase in the last 3 months? DSTV has not had a price review since April 2022. That’s a whole year, cut them some slack.
