Former presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, has shared insights into ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s response to a delegation led by First Republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, concerning the detention of Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu.
Amaechi, heading a group of Igbo leaders known as Highly-Respected Igbo Greats, visited Buhari towards the end of his tenure, urging the release of Kanu to curb insecurity in the Southeast.
Adesina revealed that Buhari, acknowledging the gravity of the request, expressed the difficulty due to its serious implications. Buhari emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law, noting that he had not interfered with the judiciary during his six years in office.
According to Adesina, Buhari said: “You have made an extremely difficult demand on me as the leader of this country. The implication of your request is very serious.”
“In the last six years, nobody will say I have confronted the judiciary. We are developing a country, and we have to go through the pains.”
“The demand you have made is heavy, but I will consider it. I am glad to know you closely at this time.”
