Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has shed light on Edison Ehie’s decision to step down as both the factional speaker and member of the State House of Assembly.
Ehie, known for his allegiance to Fubara during the recent crisis, tendered his resignation in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dated December 29, 2023.
During a gathering that included former governor Peter Odili and his wife, Mary, at the inaugural state banquet in Port Harcourt on Monday night, Fubara explained that Ehie’s resignation showcased his commitment to achieving peace in Rivers.
Addressing concerns about the unexpected resignation, Fubara said; “Therefore, whatever it will take as seen in our decisions; yesterday most of you were worried why the speaker will resign,” referring to Ehie as the most recent speaker. I am telling you what we can do to bring about peace.
“What we want to gain is not the main concern. It has nothing to do with the power we wish to use. But consider what we are ultimately leaving for our people”.
