Real Madrid has officially withdrawn from the race to sign Kylian Mbappé, even if the French forward chooses not to renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and departs the club next summer, according to a report by Cadena SER.
Despite being Real Madrid’s primary target in the past two transfer windows, the club has now decided to forego pursuing Mbappé, irrespective of his contractual status in the future.
The report indicates that Mbappé’s potential arrival would also conflict with Real Madrid’s current transfer strategy.
The French national team captain would join Real Madrid at the age of nearly 26, while the club’s recent significant signings have been younger players, such as French internationals Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Preceding them were Brazilian forwards Vinícius and Rodrygo, and Endrick is slated to join the Santiago Bernabéu in 2024, once he reaches the age of 18, as the club continues to focus on recruiting players under the age of 20.
Additionally, if Mbappé were to join from PSG, he would command a substantially higher salary than several of the club’s senior players.
Currently, the top earners at Real Madrid are David Alaba and Toni Kroos, with Alaba earning €10.8 million net per year and Kroos receiving €10.7 million net per year. Signing Mbappé would necessitate a significantly larger salary, potentially causing discord among the current squad members.
