A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka on Wednesday said Ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet will not have any significant roles to play in his administration as the president will take critical decisions without carrying them along.
Chidoka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated this while featuring as a guest on Channels Television programme ‘Sunrise Daily’ which was monitored by QUESTTIMES.
According to him, the fact that President Tinubu took very important decisions such as removal of fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rate windows without the input of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) shows that the incoming Ministers will not have any significant roles to play as the president will not consult them on key issues.
Chidoka said “It’s a tough one to predict where we are headed as a nation. I can see some worrying and very disturbing signals for us at this time”.
“Number one on the list of the disturbing signals that I see is the fact that the president took decisions of monumental impact without a cabinet. That for me is a suggestion that that cabinet will not play any important role in this government”.
“If the decisions of fuel subsidy and the unification of the dollar was brought to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and you have a diverse discussion from various segments of the economy, it would have been interesting for us to see what would have been government’s decision about issues”.
“So, you would have heard the Trade Minister giving his views; we would have heard from the military giving their views”.
