Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, assured the people that his recent decisions in the state’s political crisis aimed at fostering peace rather than stemming from fear. Addressing the public at the New Year’s state banquet, Fubara emphasized that the resignation of factional Speaker Edison Ehie was a step toward maintaining harmony.
Following a truce meeting with President Tinubu on December 18, Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, agreed to an 8-point resolution to resolve the political crisis. As part of this resolution, all lawsuits initiated by Fubara and his team regarding the crisis were to be withdrawn immediately.
The signed resolution, involving key figures like Fubara, Wike, and Speaker Martin Amaewhule, mandated the Governor to reintroduce the 2024 appropriation bill to the full House of Assembly.
Governor Fubara, looking forward to a prosperous 2024 for Rivers State, urged the public to embrace the peace process championed by President Bola Tinubu. He affirmed his commitment to avoiding any political conflicts that could impede the state’s promising development prospects, emphasizing that decisions were made in the best interest of the people.
He said, “Every decision that we have taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders.
“I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our interest but for the development of the state.
“So when we are faced with this type of situation we consider the actions and reactions. Who is going to suffer? Fubara will not suffer, but one million supporters will suffer.”
