Ace Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, has revealed she was denied major roles during her early days in the industry because of her physique.
In a recent interview on the TokeMoments podcast tagged “The Power of Purpose and Consistency,” Akindele disclosed she was often told that she was “not fine” and that she didn’t have the right body type for leading roles.
“I remember people telling me, ‘You are not fine. You don’t have ass. You don’t have boobs. You will not be in this film.
“And I remember crying. A lot of times I would cry, break down, get into the bathroom and cry,” she recounted.
QUEST TIMES learned that despite the challenges she faced, Akindele never gave up on her dream of becoming a successful actress. She continued to audition for roles and eventually landed her breakthrough role in the sitcom ‘I Need to Know.’

It is worth noting that Akindele is one of the most popular and successful actresses in Nollywood today. She is known for her comedic roles but has also starred in dramatic films and television shows. She is also a successful producer and director.
The founder of Scene One Productions, a film and television production company was awarded the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the film Jenifa Diary In 2016.
