Chief Bode George, a well-known leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that the party’s failure to respect the South-West will haunt it during the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.
During an interview with Arise TV, George revealed that PDP officials had failed to include the South-West in key party positions.
George claimed that the PDP’s problem with the general election this weekend is that the party’s management has not done a good job of managing it.
He said, “The managers of the current party did not manage it well. See the scenario now. The presidential candidate is northeast, the director general of the national campaign is North West, the national chairman of the party is in the north-central, the vice presidential candidate is from the south-south, and the acting chairman of the board of trustees is from the southeast.
“Where is the south-west in all these? Where is that inclusivity, so that is the problem we have and the integrity group still stands so fast without belief? [Where is] fairness and equity?”
Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, was chosen by Atiku Abubakar to be his running mate, which caused a crisis within the PDP.
The party’s leadership has enraged Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike over Atiku’s choice of a running mate.
In response to Atiku’s move, Wike demanded Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation as PDP National Chairman.
Wike observed that the PDP’s presidential flagbearer and national chairman could not be produced in the North.
