The United States of America has stated that the outcome of Saturday’s elections will determine Nigeria’s democratic future.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken; USAID Administrator, Samantha Power; and US Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, made this revelation in a 58-minute video made available to newsmen on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 by the US Mission Nigeria.
The US promised to continue to support the country’s democracy.
“And during this election, you, the people of Nigeria have a chance to make your voices heard, to choose your future,” said Blinken, adding that: “Your vote matters. This election matters – not only to Nigerians but the rest of the world”.
They added that the US does not have a preferred candidate, but that a peaceful conduct of the general elections will be well received by the people.
“We are investing in your success. Our shared democratic futures depend on it”, said Greenfield.
They implored the people of the country to come en masse to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice.
