A coalition of Christian groups has said it would vote for the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the All Progressives Congress (APC) had already shut its doors against their faith over its choice of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the 2023 election.
The group made this known during its National Executive meeting in Abuja to discuss “The Role of Christians in Politics and Security Management ahead of 2023 General Elections”.

The group said “The Coalition vehemently kicked against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress and warned against the use of religion in campaigns by some politicians in the country.
“We saw PDP as an alternative because APC sealed its house against Nigerian Christians already.”
The Coalition and Church groups said the next Nigerian leader must be able to bring solutions to the endemic corruption, lack of transparency in government, abject poverty hitting Nigerians across the country, absence of free and fair elections, massive unemployment and lack of respect to the rule of law which has become the order of the day.

In the executive meeting attended by leaders and representatives of fifteen para-church organisations, issues bordering on political participation, integrity, security management and nation-building were raised.
The Coalition vehemently kicked against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC and warned against the use of religion in campaigns by some politicians in the country.
“We saw PDP as an alternative because APC sealed its house against the Nigeria Christians already. Unfortunately, the way PDP is handling our leader and brother, Governor Wike and his team [Five Governors all Christians] is sending a negative signal to us, we can’t pretend anymore,” the group said.
Several faith-based groups have kicked against the same-faith ticket of the APC.
Following the criticism that greeted the Muslim-Muslim ticket by the APC, the lawmaker representing Kogi-West senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi, proposed a bill to prevent same faith ticket for President and Vice President seats by any political party.
